Do you know what type of scalp or scalp conditions that you might have? Not many of us know exactly without having an analysis done.

Choosing an appropriate hair & scalp care routine and working towards a healthy hair depends on identifying what type of scalp you have. For starters, knowing your scalp type can help you choose the suitable products.

There are a wide range of hair care products in the market, choosing the wrong ones could trigger sensitive scalps possibly causing a host of hair problems such as dandruff or hair thinning.

Here's sharing some of the common scalp conditions;

Oily Scalps

Greasy hair is the result of oily scalps where there is an over-abundance production of sebum; oil naturally produced by our bodies from our oil glands.

The excess sebum makes your hair go greasy, limp and lifeless quickly. It may also clog your hair follicles and cause dandruff or hair thinning.

Some shampoo and other scalp care products that are hydrating and moisturising might add even more moisture to your oily scalp. Try switching around cleansing shampoos that are won't dry out your hair while keeping it oil-free and smooth.

On the other hand, though you might be tempted to shampoo at every opportunity. Shampooing too frequently might leave your hair dry and brittle causing your scalp to compensate for the reduction in sebum by producing more sebum.

Everyone has different scalp condition. Don't be afraid to experiment different shampoos or shampoo cycle and find out what works best for you!

Dry Scalps

Other than having to deal with frizzy, dry and brittle hair with excessive split ends, dry scalps are also usually irritated or itchy and tend to flake more.

In worse case scenarios, it could also lead to extreme itching hair thinning or hair loss.

Dry scalp happens when your skin has too little moisture. It could possibly be triggered by the environment, harsh chemicals found in some products or other scalp conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, scalp eczema and scalp psoriasis.

Other than using a suitable conditioner, you could try switching your hair & scalp care products to gentler and organic ones and also avoid shampooing too frequently. And remember to stay hydrated.

One of the easiest way to manage dry scalp is to give yourself a gentle scalp massage in the shower next time. This can help stimulate your skin for better blood circulation and improved sebum production.

Or you can leave the massage to us with our signature Scalp Spa Therapy.

Dandruff

Dandruff is a common skin condition that causes your scalp to flake and it affects nearly half the world's population.

These flakes are actually the dead skin cells that are shed off the scalp naturally.

The exact cause is still debatable with many possible contributing factors such as irritated and oily skin, dry and itchy skin or other scalp conditions such as eczema or seborrheic dermatitis. It can occur whether your scalp is oily or dry.

Some ways to help manage it could be switching to gentler products and brushing your hair (gently). But it's still best to see a specialist and get an analysis in order to find the cause and appropriate treatment.

There are many different factors contributing to the different scalp conditions. Having a checkup for your scalp and hair is a good place to get started for your scalp care regime.
